Humitas

Humitas are also a dish based on corn. Humitas are usually sweet, but some families prepare them salty; it all depends in your taste. Humitas have a very traditional rural cuisine look and they melt in your mouth while you are eating them. This is how they look.

Pastel de Choclo

Pastel de Choclo is another very typical Chilean cuisine. It is made in two parts; the first one is the base, made the same way as we make the "Pino" for empanadas. The second part is the corn part (my favorite), which is made with very creamy corn, milk, butter, sugar and salt. This is how it looks the final result:

Ensalada a la Chilena

This type of salad is also a very typical Chilean salad. It is made with tomatoes, cilantro and onions. Chilean people only uses salt, lemon juice and sometimes olive oil to dress the salads. The Chilean salad is only dress with some salt and olive oil. This salad is used as a side dish for the Humitas or Pastel de Choclo. This is how the salad looks

Empanadas de Pino

Even though we can find a variation of empanadas around the world, Chilean empanadas have a very distinct flavor. Basically, Chilean empanadas are a dough filled with "pino" inside. This "pino" is made with beef meat chopped in little squares, onion, raisins, eggs, black olives and some species.

This is how they look inside! Yummie!
